1000 steps is a well known walking track and excellent practice ground for those who are taking on a big physical challenge like say a… mountain climb.

My friend and I have attempted now 3 times to go to the 1000 steps walk in Victoria, but it’s not quite eventuated…. Largely due to the fact that one of us (not pointing fingers but, him!) has cancelled. It’s about an hours drive from where we live and takes about 2 hours to complete.
The area is known as the Dandenong Ranges National Park. The walk starts in Ferngully and ends up 5km and 1000 steps later, at One Tree Hill Picnic ground. Be prepared for 2 hours of solid walking! It’s not all hard work though, as it’s set in beautiful rainforest like area with native wildlife and Australia’s interesting and intriguing flora and fauna. Sign posts along the way liken it to the Kokoda trail and give information on what it would have been like doing the trail as a service men of the Australian Army. So excellent practice for anyone thinking of taking on adventure such as that.

I have now 33 days to go, I really hope that in this time I will be able to get to those steps, come rain, hail or shine, and to get in some good practice! I’ve been given advice by many people

I will be taking on my biggest Adventure yet, Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW! I will Climb Kilimanjaro in honour of my Grandpa who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008. I was in Africa when I found out and I said at the time I would one day do this for him, in his memory! We are raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to raise awareness and the necessary funds for prevention of the disease that affects so many. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke. We must prevent and find a cure as it’s not a normal part of aging, and does affect 100,000’s of Australians.
